Our family has always had a sensitivity to dairy but didn’t know it until recently. When we found that out, I started looking for dairy-free recipes. Today I have 9 of the very best dairy-free desserts recipes to share with you.
A fun story about green milk. When my sister was in preschool she had a St. Patrick’s Day themed snack time where everything was dyed green including the milk. She didn’t want to drink the milk but she drank it anyway. That was a bad, bad idea. As soon as she got home from preschool she threw it all up. For years after she hated drinking milk.
I found out about 8 months ago that I have a sensitivity to dairy products, which means I’m not allergic to it, but my body doesn’t really like it either. So I have been trying to avoid dairy At first it was a lot harder to cut out than I had thought.
My doctor that tested me for allergies told me to avoid milk, cottage cheese and ice cream but I could still eat sour cream and cheese. But I have found that I feel better if I avoid all dairy. That is why I decided it’s time to find a bigger variety of dairy-free desserts and made this list.
Some of the recipes here have some form of chocolate in them. Regular chocolate chips you just buy in the grocery store have milk in them, think about it, that’s why they are called milk chocolate. Don’t use those.
I selected very carefully (hope I didn’t miss any) recipes that call for cocao or dark chocolate vegan chocolate chips (Enjoy Life is a good brand) that don’t have any milk in them. Cacao is pure chocolate with nothing else added like milk or sugar. Just check the labels and make sure the chocolate you buy doesn’t have milk or butter added.

Five ingredients that are all good and natural makes it’s both easy to make and healthy. If you really don’t like rhubarb you could substitute another fruit that you think would be good. I would consider raspberries or peaches or extra strawberries.
4. Wendy’s Copycat Paleo Frosty – My Natural Family
Everyone loves Wendy’s Frostys, right? Well everyone I know does. The problem is that they definitely are NOT Paleo. All that processed STUFF. So I set out to make my own homemade copycat frosty recipe. These are yum yum yummy and easy to make. They are also great for anyone on a dairy-free diet.
I love easy this recipe is. Just throw a few things in the blender and you have an instant dessert. You’ll save a lot of money because you won’t have to go to Wendy’s anymore. Plus this recipe has got to be a lot healthier because it’s clean. This is a relatively healthy treat that as a family we like to eat. It is particularly good for my son because he is trying to limit his dairy intake. He likes this copycat recipe almost as much as he like regular ice cream. This is a lot healthier for the whole family.
5. Double Chocolate Birthday Cake – Brown Sugar & Vanilla
Always make sure you buy Enjoy Life chocolate chips since they are the easiest brand of chocolate chips to find that are guaranteed dairy-free. Most chocolate chips unless they are dark chocolate have milk and other milk containing ingredients added. That’s why they are called milk chocolate.
6. Strawberry Shortcake – My Darling Vegan
Flour – Sugar – Coconut Milk – Non-Dairy Milk – Strawberries – Powdered Sugar – Vanilla
You won’t want to miss out on these strawberry shortcakes, they are light and refreshing, especially on a summer evening. One of my favorite things is to add blueberries to this to add flavor and nutrients.

I chose this one because I the Kettle Chips in the crust sounded interesting and would add a salty flavor to the crust and add to the balance of the chocolate.

This is a bit of a healthy banana bread since the applesauce replaces the oil or butter. The applesauce also helps it turn out more moist and sweet. Banana bread is a great way to use up those old brown bananas. I’m sure you already know that the browner bananas are, the sweeter they are. Anyone will love this bread even if they don’t need to eat dairy-free. My whole family certainly loves it.
